The craftsmanship of the Celtic weavers has been renowned since the time of ancient Rome. The people of this region used natural sheep wool to create woven fabrics with a distinctive checkered pattern known as “Tartan.” Tartan is formed by interlacing two different colored threads, resulting in a fabric that displays three colors. The characteristic pattern, easily recognizable, features the crisscrossing of two color columns that create repeating square blocks.
